Catching Up With the First Month...

It has felt like a mad rush since we have been here.  The time has flown, and I have not been a good little blogger as I promised I would be.  So now we will catch up on a few things that we have experienced since arriving.  This first picture is Doug and I outside Mandy and Jared's house.  Its such a nice place and is much larger than it looks from the outside.  There are actually 3 floors, Doug and I are living on the bottom, which is a walk-out basement.  They have made us very welcome!

On my birthday, Doug and I went for a nice long walk and a quick stop into the Bäckerie for a pastry and ice cream. German pastries are so different than American.  Not as sweet, but more buttery and flaky. The ice cream is different as well, again not as sweet but more creamy.  When we returned home the kids had decorated our bedroom and had a lovely bouquet to surprise me with.

Annabelle is 12, Gracie is 9,  Nathaniel is 7 and I am ageless!!! (I wish)

One morning I was standing in the kitchen doing dishes and the doorbell rang several times.  I answered it, and there was a German guy speaking very rapidly and gesturing to the street.  I had no idea what was going on, but then he said "you have a car?" I said yes, and he gestured for me to follow him.  I called to Mandy, and when we came out into the street he explained to her in German what was going on.  He had been going house to house to see if he could find the owner of the car below!  Apparently someone forgot to set their brake!  It took a few hours and some head scratching by the local police, but eventually it was towed away.  We never found out who the car belonged to.  But it was a bit of excitement for such a small village!

A peaceful morning in the Wintergarten!

So there you have it. Next we travel to Ireland, the land of shamrocks, leprechans and "40 shades of green".
